THE CHALLENGE

The interior felt unexpectedly dark.

The floor plan contained several enclosed spaces, heavy finishes and limited visual connection between rooms.

The homeowners wanted a brighter, more contemporary environment without losing the character of the original home.

The challenge was to modernize without erasing.

THE VAULTORA RESPONSE

Instead of relying solely on additional artificial lighting, the design focused on improving visual connections and reflective surfaces.

Several unnecessary visual barriers were removed.

Glass was introduced selectively.

The staircase became a lighter architectural element rather than a visual obstruction.

A new lighting strategy complemented the natural light rather than competing with it.

Opened selected interior connections

Reworked the staircase enclosure

Introduced glass where privacy allowed

Used lighter-toned architectural materials

Added concealed architectural lighting

Created layered ambient and accent lighting

Used reflective stone and subtle textured finishes

Rebalanced dark existing elements with warmer, lighter materials

LIGHTING STRATEGY

Rather than flooding the house with downlights, VAULTORA introduced multiple layers:

Ambient light for overall comfort.

Architectural light to define ceilings and walls.

Accent light to emphasize artwork, stone and architectural features.

THE RESULT

The house became noticeably brighter without becoming stark.

The original architectural character remained, but the interior now felt calmer, lighter and more contemporary.
